Something exciting is brewing

Time just passes so quickly and little did I know, I've already survived four weeks of degree life. This weeks class started with our group presentations on what we learned the previous class which was personal and social skills. Every group had its strengths and flaws, and it was interesting to see how every individual presents themselves in front of a crowd. I love watching my classmates present because I really get to learn the ways to improve my presentation skills from them and also avoid the "no-no's" in presenting. It was also great that our lecturer got everyone to give feedback to each other on the presentation because sometimes we may be unaware of certain things we do, and it's good to have them pointed out so we won't repeat the same mistake again.

The most memorable presentation for me was when we had to mention about the personal skills we had to improve upon, the members of one group presented about each others strengths and flaws. I found that quite smart and an interesting twist as to the supposed brief. It was more casual and fun because it was just like a mini discussion from one friend to another. That was a strong point to keep in mind for myself because I tend to be quite by the book when it comes to presentations and I think I need to improve on my stage presence.

After the presentation, we had to discuss the event we'll be organizing in 5 months time for this module. So from my previous post, the winning event was the fashion presentation. The initial idea was a fashion presentation whereby designs will be projected in the white space which was pretty cool as guests can be part of the art. However, there wasn't a decided concept yet. So we used our workshop class to discuss about it and all sorts of funny ideas came up like disco, k pop, futuristic and many more. There were just too many ideas that we had to stop at 15 suggestions!

Everyone had one chance to vote and I was pretty torn between the Great Gatsby theme and the floral tea time one. The 1920's were my favourite fashion era when I was learning contemporary of fashion as I just adored the cloche hats, shiny flapper dresses and that everything was embellished with beads, rhinestones, or fringe! Everything in the Great Gatsby was so glamourous I wish I got to experience that for real. Plus, it would be so fun to dress up in that theme for the event! But when I thought about where to loan suitable garments and how to bring this classy era to a white space, I just didn't think it would be possible to pull it off and bring it justice. So in the end I voted for the floral tea time theme because execution would look good when projected in the white space, it'll look something like a digital garden which is pretty cool and highly Instagrammable. Also, having intricate floral designs in the presentation will look really pretty as well!

After gathering all the votings, the concept that had most votes was the androgynous one. To be honest, I know androgynous fashion is a huge trend nowadays but I really was hoping for the floral tea time one because I could really imagine it being executed. But I don't mind this theme either because it's something new and it helps build LGBT awareness too. Especially in Asia, people tend to be more close minded so this would be a great form of supporting people in this social movement. I'm not going to give out much about this because where's the surprise then? All I can say that this event is not going to be "just another fashion event".

Towards the end of the presentation, the class got into groups for show, styling, marketing and financial. I joined the marketing team because I wanted to be the graphic designer who will be doing the designs for all the posters and tickets! I just love doing things like this and have already got some ideas in my head. Me being me, I never want to take the easy route and will always try to do something different. Not going to give out too much now so just stay tuned for more progress updates!
