Taking the first step
Now on to my second week of the semester, I'm feeling slightly less lost thanks to my lecturers Anisa and Joyce whom gave me plenty of guidance on the path I intend to head for. I started my first week flustered not knowing what I wanted to do at all. With no direction, I was afraid to even try because I wasn't sure. But as I took time to think it through this week and went through my past projects, I realize that I really enjoyed creative projects like making layouts, photography, creating mock ups and crafts. Since now I have found a direction, I decided to take my first step into making it happen.
Our Futureproof Personal Development Planning class was about building a portfolio on ourselves based on the career path we intend to head for. So this week I created a website just for this, that also truly shows my cheeky and creative personality. Our lecturer Anisa gave me advice to gather all my past projects related to creative works such as layout and design work for my portfolio which would benefit me to getting a job in the creative field. I found it quite helpful because it gives my future employers a sense of what I can do when I'm in that line of work which I can't believe I've never thought of before. How I wish there a module like this earlier because now that I think of the portfolio I did previously, I'm cringing so hard on how unprofessional it was.
Now that I've finished creating a proper portfolio site with the work I've done, I can say I'm pretty proud of how much I've accomplished. Looking back at my projects, I reminisce the good times I had doing all of it and just can't believe how time flew by so quickly. Sometimes these memories feel too surreal to be true as everything happened in two short, awesome years.
Anyway, so this week during my Futureproof Personal Development Planning class, we had to discuss which event we would be doing next semester. Four groups were assigned last week and the main ideas were:
GROUP 1: Fashion presentation in a white space whereby the clothes will be projected onto the white backdrop. Guests were to wear white to the event for maximum effect on the projections. There will also be models wearing the garments in the show.
GROUP 2: Recycled fashion auction whereby we'll be teaming with some fashion design students to create a collection from recycled clothes collected from the students of Raffles.
GROUP 3: Bridal wear exhibition whereby a group of bridal shops will come together and set up a bridal fair.
GROUP 4: Preloved flea market held in Orchard Gateway whereby blogshops, online shops and social media influencers will be setting up a store and selling their preloved clothes. I was in group 4 and we chose to do a preloved themed flea market because everyone can get a good bargain from it and it's also a way of going green in fashion. Plus, everyone loves to shop, since it's preloved things are going off for a lot cheaper than usual, everyone will be happy!
After every group presented their ideas, we voted and the winning group was....
GROUP 1!
Even I didn't vote for my own group and voted for group 1 instead because I truly felt like their idea was smart, innovative and something different. I was already excited and was ready to Instagram the event when I heard about the projector idea! Funny that all the groups event proposals did not clash with one another and every proposal was distinctly different from each other.
Stay tuned for more progress posts on myself as well as the event planning!
